I read a tweet today that asked, "When was the last time you changed your eyelash curler pad?" And i thought to myself, i don't, I just buy a new one, or two....

 I have maybe like 6 eyelash curlers in my kit, like I said already, I just buy a new one, and when I work with a specific  actress, i have one that i only use on them. But if you take care of your lash curler and gently wipe and clean the rubber pad with warm water , no chemicals near the eyes! after every time you use it, the pad should last you up to six months.

As for the Actual lash curler, I use The amazing Shu Uemura  brand, I just love it and I  see it in most artist makeup kits ~ just try not to just toss it in your bag, place it in a case or if packing it in a kit, keep it in the box, it will help prolong the life of the curler and try not to drop it, like tweezers, when you drop them way to often, they loose suspension and they just don't work that great after awhile.

I found that you do actually get a  much better curl if you replace the pad, the older pads seem to break down and leave an indent by the pressure of the metal  pressing against it. Believe me, I have seen people cut their lashes right off, after a while if you don't change the pad, it can create a slit in the rubber  that's not noticeable and then its, chop chop lashes! So its in your best interest to get new pads. 2 for $6.00. cheaper then wearing false lashes everyday right?

It seems that Actress Salma Hayak has jumped on the, "I want to be a beauty mover and shaker too". band -wagon. She has created an entire beauty line  including Haircare products. Well , I couldn't
help myself. I went on over to my local CVS, yes, CVS and checked it out. I liked it, Salma, I liked it.
It's an oil free, sheer- coverage moisturizing tinted  moisturizer that's mineral based. i found it to work well on HD as well. It doesn't sit on your face allowing the fine lines to just get filled with product, YUCK!, but rather blends and radiates your skin. I have not checked out the rest of her line , but I will in time. I love the idea of a eye liner pen, it's the perfect way to get an amazing line and get as graphic as you can, and still  you can still do a natural look by lining right on the upper lash line. Prefect for a clean crisp cat eye. And when they say, "stay All Day", they mean it, i lined the back of my hand around 10;30 am an by 6pm it was still there, mind you I wash my hands religiously during the day too.  It's not waterproof, but water resistant.

Beauty legend has it that American movie director D.W. Griffith designed the first set of false eyelashes. While creating a motion picture in 1916, he wanted his leading lady Seena Owens to have lashes so long they graced her cheeks when she blinked or looked down thoughtfully.

A wig maker set to work creating the lashes out of human hair and gauze, and the result was movie magic. Unfortunately the film itself was not, and the screenplay became forgettable. However, the false lashes were remembered to the misfortune of Griffith who never formally made a claim to their fame and had his idea simulated, stolen, and altered in the decades to come.

Since 1916, there have been plenty of leading ladies and celebrities who used false eyelashes. Twiggy is an example of someone in the public spotlight who used falsies in the way that they were intended. Others unfortunately have not, picture Tammy Faye Baker & Liza Minnelli for example. The history of eyeliner dates back to ancient civilizations and has been worn by both men and women alike.  Though the ingredients and application methods have changed, the look remains oddly consistent.  Take a look at the evolution of the modern day eyeliner.

As early as 10,000 BC Egyptians were donning various cosmetics not only for aesthetics but to protect the skin from the scorching desert sun.  Research has also speculated that eyeliner was worn to protect the wearer from the evil eye. 

A prominent characteristic of the Egyptian facade for both men and women was the heavily lined eye.  Ancient Egyptians used kohl eyeliners produced with a variety of materials including lead, copper ore and antimony, a toxic metallic element.  The elements were ground into a paste and applied with rounded sticks of wood, bronze, or glass created for the purpose. Kohl pots were common and used to crush and serve as cosmetic containers for the eye makeup.  The widespread use of kohl is historically documented in the sheer number of kohl pots found among burial belongings from the late Old Kingdom to the end of the New Kingdom (2345 to 1070 B.C).

The face of the war era woman was clean and simple.  Though very little if any eyeliner was worn around the eyes, the shortage of items during the World War I led to an interesting use of eyeliner.  Jackets with short skirts became fashionable for young women but silk stockings were unavailable.  Enterprising young women, accustomed to making do, used black eyeliner pencil to draw a black line up the back of their legs to simulate a stocking seam.

A few of you guys have asked me , How do I get That Winged Liner look, aka THE CAT EYE?

So here you are, I love this look, it's simple and classic and can be reinvented any way you like. Follow the Steps below and then experiment with color and shading,  create a classic eye Ala, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S or a Sexy Smokey Vamp Eye.  Have fun and don't poke your eye out.

     You have two main options for product--liquid liner or pot liner with an angled, thin brush. Truthfully, the best way to understand which is your best for the task is to test out both.

     2 Let's pretend you've decided on the liquid--in my estimation, an inferior choice, but some of you just can't get down with a brush and I respect that--so, liquid. Choose the shortest pen-tip you can find--bizarrely, my faves have been drugstore finds. The shorter the tip, the more control you have.

     Set up a hands-free magnified mirror--you'll need all the hands you can get for this one. Starting with the inner corner of your eye, barely touch the pen to your lashline and slowly drag toward the outer corner of your eye.

     The key is to make your line as close to the lashes as humanly possible--if you want to fatten it up later, by all means do.

     As you round toward the edge, sort of flick your wrist slightly but confidently toward your temple. It's better to make a longer extended liner--we can always q-tip it off later. The key is more about placement of wing, rather than the length initially.
   • 6
     All of these steps need to be done with an open eye. It's really hard to tell what something as specific as a winged liner will look like when your eyes are open, if you apply when your eyes are closed. This holds true for almost any shadow application, too. As much as you can flex your little eye-muscles to be able to hold both eyes open when you apply, the more you'll know exactly what your face will look like when you're done.

     Open both eyes and with a normal expression on your face (not a raised brow) and assess your work.
