GET THE LOOK: Brigitte Bardot A Go-Go!

GET THE LOOK: SEX KITTEN GALORE! BRIGITTE BARDOT A GO-GO!

Brigitte Bardot Is the one and only Ultimate sex kitten, she created the term as far as i am concerned. The Sex Kitten bombshell beauty was one of the most popular of all the crop of European actresses to receive mass media press and adornment in the USA. At her fame
peak in the 50's & 60's this sultry siren had her own signature look that became the most sought after look for women across the globe, her tousled locks, come hither stare  & pouty lips where  a huge influence in beauty and in the fashion of the times, and still to this day, this look is one of the most requested and sought after looks, just look at the fashion magazines and makeup  companies ads and layouts, Brigitte Barbot still captivates us and the Iconic look will live on long after this siren's gone.  So I thought , let's do a Get that Look segment of Brigitte Bardot. Check out the step by step below, but remember, you can put your own spin on the look too.

Eyes

    • 1
It's all in the eyes. Bardot's eyes radiated a sense of innocence and seduction all in one glance. Practice her come-hither stare after you apply her signature cat eye look.
    • 2
Clean your eyebrows. Bardot didn't have super arched eyebrows, but they were neat and appropriately fit her face shape. Make sure to tweeze those strays in order to start with a neat eye palette. Fill in the brows with a brow shadow and brush or pencil if necessary.
    • 3
Apply shadow. Brush a neutral eyeshadow on your lids. You may want to put a lighter color on your brow bone under your eyebrow arch.
    • 4
Draw the cat eye. This is the most essential part of Bardot's beauty regimen. Apply a thin line of black liquid liner beginning from the inside of your eye all along your upper lash line. Make sure you're closest to the lash line as possible. When you reach the corner of your eye, bring the eyeliner brush upwards as you extend passed the edge of the eye. Be sure to taper the line at the end, thinning the line out as it reaches its end point. It's better to start with a thin line and repeat until you reach the preferred thickness. Bardot preferred a thick line.
    • 5
Use a pencil to line your lower lids. A pencil is easier to apply when you want to line your lower rims. Draw the liner from the inside to the edge of your lower rims.
    • 6
Glue on false lashes. You have the option to apply strip lashes or individual lashes. When applying strip eyelashes, consider trimming the edges if necessary in order to fit your own unique eye shape. Get the strip lashes that are longer at the end of your outer lash line. This will help further emphasize your cat eye. When applying individual eyelashes, place 3 or 4 at the end of your lash line.
    • 7
Apply mascara over your false lashes. This will help blend your false lashes with your real lashes. Only apply mascara on your upper lash line.
      Lips
    • 1
Line your lips. Take a nude or nude-pink lip liner that complements your natural lip color. Line close to the outside edge of your lips to provide a fuller appearance.
    • 2
Apply lipstick. Use a nude or nude-pink matte lipstick that matches the color of your lip liner. Bardot was often photographed in matte lipstick.
    • 3
Lip gloss is optional. In her movies, Bardot had the natural shine from seductively licking her lips. In order to give your lips more of a pump, you may want to consider applying a clear lip gloss over your lips. You could also apply the lip gloss at the center of your bottom lip to give the pouty look.

TIPS:When creating the cat eye, use a wet cotton swab if your liquid liner appears to harsh on the edges,  or a q-tip works well with a bit of your own saliva.  Its a great way to get a tapered look that is perfect for the edge of any cat eye

THE RELOVT OF THE GIBSON GIRL: 5 Steps to Recreating 1920's Glamour

The ROARING TWENTIES: The Revolt of The Gibson Girl
And how to get this look in 5 Steps

Cosmetics and makeup looks in the 1920's are iconic by their use to create specific looks such as painting lips the shape of Cupid's Bow, Rimming the eyes with Knol Liners and using Bright red blushes on the cheeks.

That heavy made up look of the 1920's was a retort from the demure, feminine Gibson Girl look of the pre-war period. in The 1920's an international beauty culture was established and society progressively focused on novelty and change. The Fashions of the times influenced films, theater , are and even Literature.

And it seems that women found a new need to wear more makeup as  the postwar sex ratio created a new significance on sexual beauty. and as women began to enter the professional world, publications that catered to beauty and fashion  encouraged women to wear makeup in the desire to look your best while competing with men for jobs.

The use of lipstick became widely in demand when Marurice Levy in 1915 invented the metal lipstick
container (tube). It was also available  in salve, liquid and stick forms as well as long lasting enduring stains that were quiet popular. At this time the more NATURAL lip gloss was also invented, which used bromo acid to create the red effect as it reacted with the wearer's lips. And did you know that flavoured lipstick was also all the rage with Cherry being the variety most used.

The 1920's also set in motion the development  of many other products that showcased that decades trend with shaping the mouth. get this they made Metal Lip Tracers (we would say stencils?) that came in various sizes to please the wishes of who ever used it.  Created all in the name of perfection and flawless lipstick application.

The "CUPID'S BOW,' created by Helena Rubinstein that was marketed as the "self- shaping lipstick, that when applied formed a perfect Cupid's bow. And the birth of the mirrored lipstick container was also brought  to the army of women who all  strive for the perfect lips. Prior to the 1920's cheek color was that of the messy elixirs blushes that where set aside for the creams, powders and liquids and rouge papers that became all the fashion, as with the invention of the spill proof containers and the compact powder blush was here to stay. To day we are seeing a move back to tint, cream and liquid stains for cheek color. I love it.

Here's A How to in 5 steps to create that 1920's look that's inside you. Have fun with it.
Step 1
Find and apply a foundation in your skin tone that will give your complexion a creamy, perfect look. You may have to use an older variety, such as pancake, or a cream meant more for theater than for everyday use. To allow your skin to breathe, thin down cream foundation by moistening your sponge before dipping in the base. If your skin is naturally porcelain or alabaster-toned, play it up.

Step 2
Darken and turn your eyebrows slightly downwards with an eyebrow pencil or even eyeliner that is darker than your actual brow color. Thin eyebrows were fashionable in the 20s, so this step works most accurately if your brows are already on the thin side. If not, you don't have to start tweezing away--you can cover your brows with a 1920s-style hat or with bangs chopped straight across as part of a bob cut. or you can use a glue stick or wax that's made for pressing and laying down your brows then cover with foundation , powder to set and draw them in.

Step 3
Smooth on your usual eye makeup primer before applying a dark eyeshadow from lash line to crease. Pick a gray-based shadow to keep your eyes on the sooty side, which is what you're aiming for. Use a black kohl eyeliner on both top and bottom lash lines. Don't scrimp, you want all the dark tones to meld together. Color top and bottom lashes with blackest black mascara. You want them dark so as to appear like you used paint to blacken them. You may want to use a waterproof formulation for all of your eye makeup to avoid unwanted smudging as much as possible.

Step 4
Find a cheek stain or cream blush with touches of red in it. You are going for a rouged look; if red is too strong for your coloring, raspberry or rose are alternatives. Rub blush into apples of cheeks. Blend away hard edges, but make sure the color is still evident, as though you just walked in from the cold.

Step 5

Apply pale pancake foundation over clean and exfoliated lips. With a waxy dark red lip liner, create a 1920s mouth by exaggerating the Cupid's bow on your top lip. Draw your lower lip as slightly plumper than it really is by extending slightly on the bottom. Draw both upper and bottom lips as shorter on the sides. Fill new lip shape in with pencil before layering matching lipstick over it.

CHECK this out! Benefit Cosmetics makes a new lip pencil to help you create the perfect CUPID'S BOW. I have used this and it works amazing to help you creat a realistic 1920's lip or to jazz it up and make it your own.

So try it, you know you want to, bring out your inner Clara Bow!

A Little History & A Rant: All About Nails Polish!

A Little History & A Little Rant About Nail Polish

Painting your nails is a very huge trend and everyone does it, little girls love it, our mom's wear it and even our sweet ole grandmothers  paint there nails, My Nana was always a Cool Coral, and it matched her lipstick all the time. And even men do it, weather there rockers, or Metro, or even trannies. Nail Polish is something that isn't going away  and with the new lines popping up with The beautiful people like Katy Perry and such endorsing them its not likely to fade away anytime soon. So I thought why not looking to nail Polish and what it all about? where did it start? and this is what i discovered, It seems that painting your nails just might be one of the oldest  beauty trends in the world. The Chinese have been adorning there nails since 3000 B.C. by using a mix of Arabic gum, egg whites, gelatin and beeswax. While other ancient cultures used stains from henna and massaging tinted powders into the nail. It seems that to having painted nails was so Important for women that recipes for making your own polish or then call varnish where included in most 19th century cookbooks. Hum, thanks google for that little tid bit. Thank god that the technology has progressed thru the years right? could you see your self massaging tinted powder form some stain berry into your nail beds? not!

Lets face it nail polish is so much more then varnish, paint, its part of your look, your feeling of who you want to be and how you want to introduce yourself to the world. when you meet someone you shake hands right?  Mini-skirt inventor Mary Quant is less known  for her deciding that your nail 's might not only match you lipstick, which like my Nana did, i adore this look. But that you should and could match your nail color to your clothing. Thank god her mod styles demanded something other then red nails, so putting that aside and introduced us to pastels that later became all the rage of the 60's.

In the 1970's French Manicures  where the hottest nail trend, a term that was created by ORLY founder Jeff Pink. who created the muted manicured look that is today considered so timeless  and classic that its worn on ones most important days such has a wedding. Its a classic for a reason. I always prefer my actress to  stick to this timeless look for there nails it's less distracting on film and you never have to worry about continuity.

And with all the new nail trends popping up and the styles changing and new products to choose from, its clear that the love affair isn't close to over.

           Here's Some Interesting facts:
The divine Miss. Davis Doing here nail? jungle red maybe?

  • Class Act: Nail polish is thought to have originated in China as early as 3000 BC when the Chinese used to paint their nails (with a mixture of egg whites, beeswax, and Arabic gum) according to the colors of the ruling dynasty. Apparently, wearing nail polish was a marker of class: only the upper class sported it. If you were lower class and tried wearing nail polish? Death penalty. (At least, some sources say.)

  • Cleopatra Fans: The tradition was also around in Ancient Egypt, where the upper class (Cleopatra among them) used to color their nails with henna or blood (!). The redder the shade, the higher in society you were.

  • Sweet ‘n Simple: Jumping ahead to the 1800s. Color wasn’t around so much, and people went more for the simple manicure. You could, however, find polish recipes in cookbooks. Weird! We want to find one of those and try it out for ourselves.
  • Rev-ed Up: Nail lacquer as we know it gained popularity in the ‘20s as a flapper trend. Some credit a woman named Michelle Manard as the first inventor of nail polish, who took inspiration from high-gloss car paints. Others say it was the Revlon brothers who really pioneered the field, coming out in 1932 with a popular nail enamel (that’s obviously endured the test of time).

A TAN FOR ALL SEASON [Getting Your GLOW on the right way]

I find that is doesn't really matter what season it is, a self-tan is a hit year round. I myself have been known to work a fake-bake, tan towel sexy glow. I feel better about myself and look great doing it too. But lets be real about it. Ensuring that you get a even realistic looking tan isn't impossible, but does take some practice as well as preparations and patience.  A Self-Tanner has the potential to scare people off if you don't use them correctly. Often one ends up with streaked skin, orange palms and blotchy,  you get the picture? I mean let's face it I have seen some amazing looking people turn themselves into UMPA LUMPAS, and everyone is afraid to tell them,  I my self, well I just walk past them signing the Umpa Lumpa song............and they get the point.

So the misapplication of self tanning lotions and sprays can have amusing results, and this is common with most people, its not so much the product, but rather the technique in which you applied it .

Tanning Lotions contain a chemical called dihydroxyacetone  aka DHA What is DHA? I s a substance that gives the top most layers of your skin temporary stains with in an hour of so after applied.  This layer is called, stratum corneum, so if you start off the wrong way with the application, the product  isn't able to stop the process from having its affect on your skin.
UMPA LUMPA

Jessica Simpson separated at birth?

The Biggest problem that people face when making use of self tanning lotions is that of streaking. The skin resembles the coat of a tiger with a combination of dark and light colored stripes. The problem lies in the fact that you have to ready your skin prior to applying the self tanning lotion.
So if your looking to catch a self-tan, there are a few things you have to do, prerequisites if you will.
Nicole Richie in a fabulous fake tan! Brava!

1, EXFOLIATE! ~ You have too, plain and simple, get in that shower grab a loofah, wash cloth and start body scrubbing, you need to remove all your dead skin before introducing a self tan product to your skin. This prevents you from streaking. and you should do this for a few days each day before apply tanners.
2. MOISTURIZE!~You must moisturize your skin prior to any self tan session , if you neglect doing this step you will streak.
3. SHAVE!~ Shaving a few days prior is a good idea before tanning, is also exfoliates your skin. it all comes down to exfoliation!
Be slow & gentle and don't rush  when your actually applying self tanner, you need to be extremely gentle to begin with. Make sure that you rub the lotions onto the skin completely , Lotions are better for people who are  more likely develop streaks compared to quick drying lotions, just the saying, quick drying doesn't make me feel secure. The lotion gives you more time to smoothen out the uneven areas thereby reducing the chances of getting streaks. And always  remember to wash and scrub your hands, of here's a better tip, where gloves!
Hey Lindsay, I'm not sure your suppose to be wearing socks with those heels.

Mandy Moore, looks great in her self tan,
4. Your FACE~  when you are self-tanning your face, blend the formula into the hairline so there's no color blocking on your face. Always have your hair pulled back when doing this, also, a tip for you, try mixing it with a bit of your facial moisturizer to cute the chances of staining or being to orange. and don't use the same tanner that's for your body, use face lotions for face, that's why they make them for your face.
Sarah McClauglin treading Umpa Lumpa Waters

Check out the various types of self-tanner available~
Creams: Quick to dry and the most common type of formula; however, they can streak easily.
Lotions: Easy to apply, but take the longest to dry because they need to be properly rubbed in.
Gels: Color develops quickly but can dry the skin.
Foams: Dry fast but are more difficult to apply.
Mists/Sprays: Best for more experienced self-tanners because it’s hard to reach the back, shoulders and smaller areas.
Towelettes: Work well on the face and for touch-ups.

and note, one of the worst thing  you can do is overlay tanner~yuck! This can results in streaks and  a orange color, remember the Umpa Lumpa song?

Oh Bradley Cooper, your friends let you leave the house like that?

Oh Malibu Barble what have they done to you?
Myke's Top Self-Tanners for you to consider the next time you want that right now California tan! Have fun, feel pretty and fallow  my suggestions and you wont be an Umpa Lumpa at all!
